United Futsal Launches the National Council: A Clearer, Unified Pathway to Represent Team USA

Four regions, one unified pathway to represent Team USA at the World Futsal Cup and in FUTURES.

For years, youth futsal talent across the United States has been scattered. Dedicated clubs work hard in their local markets, but navigating the pathway to elite international competition has often felt fragmented for both directors and parents.

Starting in Season 6, United Futsal is changing how the game is organized, scouted, and represented nationwide. With the launch of the National Council, member organizations are dividing the country into four distinct regions—Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, and Southwest—uniting local club leaders to raise standard selection criteria and decide who wears the United States colors on the international stage.

A New Era for the World Futsal Cup

The most immediate change arrives at the World Futsal Cup. Individual club teams will no longer qualify on an isolated basis. Instead, the National Council will select and field four regional powerhouse rosters:

  • USA Northeast
  • USA Southeast
  • USA Midwest
  • USA Southwest

Each region will compete as its own standalone team on the world stage. Rosters are strictly limited to ten players per squad (eight field players and two goalkeepers) across four official divisions:

  • Boys 2012/2013
  • Boys 2014/2015
  • Boys 2016/2017
  • Girls 2014/2015

One Region, Two Distinct Pathways

Your home region is now the foundation for two unique developmental experiences:

  1. World Futsal Cup (Compete Regionally): Each region builds its own squad to battle international clubs and regional peers abroad.
  2. FUTURES Program (Train Nationally): The model shifts from competition to development. Each region sends its top six players to form a single, unified national training pool under Team USA guidance.

At the World Futsal Cup, regional pride is on the line. In FUTURES, the best players in the country share the court as teammates.

On-the-Ground Scouting: Who Makes the Call?

Selection is not based on guesswork or politics. Each region operates its own dedicated scouting staff, tracking player development live throughout the Winter Regional Championships and the National Training Camp.

Respected club leaders are already actively steering the regional scout networks:

  • Midwest: Fabian Rodriguez (Ole Futsal), Dante Garcia (Columbus Futsal Academy), and Rafa Navas.
  • Northeast: Mark Waite (VB Futsal) and Scotty Villagran (Sporting Maryland).
  • Southeast: Jonathon Grant (Yellowcap FC) and Mario Concha (Gauchito FC).
  • Southwest: Rob Bell (Bulldogs Futsal) and Ana Bruni (Albion Futsal).

The remaining council seats and scouting positions are reserved for new member organizations joining this season.

What It Means to Become a Member Club

Joining the National Council gives grassroots directors a direct seat at the decision-making table for American futsal. Member organizations receive:

  • Exclusive territory protection to host United Futsal-sanctioned leagues and tournaments.
  • Direct voting power in regional team roster selections.
  • FUTURES player nomination access for top prospects.
  • Guest coaching opportunities at the National Training Camp.
  • Free admission to United Futsal PRO events for every registered club player.

In return, member clubs commit to standardizing their operations:

  • Registering all players, coaches, and referees through the United Futsal Vault.
  • Running all sanctioned leagues and tournaments exclusively on the platform.
  • Attending monthly virtual council working sessions.
  • Participating in the annual in-person National Council meeting at the National Training Camp.
